Banksia and waxflower are quietly honeyed, more nectar than bouquet, and you have to lean in for it. The sharpness people remember from the bush is the foliage, the eucalypt and tea tree oils, clean and almost medicinal. Boronia is the one true showstopper, and it is rare and gone in a fortnight. So an honest native scent sits low and warm. Honey over a green, resinous edge. A long way from a sweet floral wall.

That is the register this candle chases. Warm, honeyed, faintly resinous, built to read as Australian bush, warm and dry. And here is the part most brands leave out: it is a fragrance blend, not extracted banksia or wattle oil. Almost nothing on the market carries the real extract, because the real extract barely survives distillation. We would rather say that outright and let you buy a well-made impression of the bush, made by people who know exactly what the bush smells like.

What You're Paying For

Soy, Cotton, and a Jar Worth Keeping

One hundred percent soy wax, hand-poured by a small Australian supplier into an amber apothecary jar with a glass stopper. Soy burns cooler and slower than the paraffin in supermarket candles, and you can see what that buys. It stretches the burn to around forty hours, which is roughly a dozen long evenings if you light it after dinner and put it out before bed. Cooler burning also keeps the soot off the glass, so the jar still looks like something once the wax is gone. The dress is what makes her a keepsake. Each butterfly is a separate little appliqué, and they sit at their own angles up the skirt, no two arrangements quite the same, so every one of these bunnies turns out subtly its own. The pinafore ties in a soft ribbon bow at each shoulder that a small person will absolutely try to undo, and probably will. Asha is nineteen. She runs our Instagram, she has a diploma, and she is at uni training to be a teacher, so by any reasonable measure she is a grown adult. She also still keeps a cuddle teddy on her bed and made no attempt to hide it when this one turned up. She just claimed it. Next month she flies out to travel around the world, and she has informed me the bunny is going with her, in the top of the backpack, across however many countries she gets to.
